The Eye of the Beholder
I like pretty things.
Seven years in Art School can really wear a person down. I've been told time and time again that art for beauty's sake is irrelevant, shallow, and not worth contemplating. I've even been told that it's impossible for beautiful art to hold any sort of intellectual value whatsoever. Somehow, things we create that are purely aesthetic in nature seem to not measure up to some intellectual standards. I think the very idea of this contradicts and denies a large part of what art is about.
We create art for many reasons. I think all the reasons are always relevant. Anything we decide to create becomes a an extension of us, and holds some value as an extension of a living thing. I don't believe that beauty and intellectualism cannot exist in the same space. I perfer to offer the viewer a mixture of both.
